Williams hails ‘heroic’ Swansea for earning first win of 2025
Williams Praises ‘Heroic’ Swansea City for First Win of 2025 Against Bristol City
Swansea City secured their first Championship victory of 2025 with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bristol City on Sunday. The win marked a crucial turning point for Swansea, ending a six-match winless streak and overcoming the play-off chasing Robins, who had previously won four consecutive home games.
The match was decided by Josh Tymon’s 55th-minute goal, which came from a rebound off Goncalo Franco’s saved shot. It was Tymon’s first Championship goal since November 2022 when he played for Stoke City. Despite limited opportunities, Swansea made the most of their chances, with five of their nine shots on target. Meanwhile, Bristol City struggled to break down the Swansea defense, managing only three shots on target from their 19 attempts.
Following the win, Swansea head coach Luke Williams hailed his team’s “heroic” performance. He expressed his pride in the players, praising their resilience and ability to overcome adversity. Williams emphasized the importance of grit and determination, noting that while the team can still improve with the ball, their defensive strength and team spirit were key to the victory.
On the other hand, Bristol City manager Liam Manning reflected on his team’s missed opportunities, particularly in the first half, where they failed to capitalize on their set-piece threats. Manning acknowledged that despite the team’s strong performance, they lacked the quality to break Swansea down, especially during a critical five-minute spell that allowed Swansea to take control.
Bristol City, now struggling with just one win in their last five league matches, missed a chance to close the gap on sixth-place Blackburn Rovers. As Swansea climbs to 16th in the Championship standings, Manning’s team will look to regroup and focus on converting strong performances into wins in the remaining 15 matches of the season.
