Dalam pertandingan pembuka Riyadh Cup 2024 pada Selasa (30/1/2023) dini hari WIB, Al Hilal berhasil meraih kemenangan dengan skor 4-3 atas Inter Miami yang dibela oleh Alexander Mitrovic cs.

Kekalahan ini menandai lanjutan hasil negatif bagi tim Lionel Messi selama pramusim.
Sebelumnya, Inter Miami hanya mampu bermain imbang 0-0 melawan Timnas El Salvador dan kalah 0-1 dari FC Dallas.
Hasil-hasil tersebut menjadi modal bagi pasukan Gerardo Martino menjelang pertandingan melawan Al Nassr dalam Riyadh Cup 2024.

Namun, Al Hilal kembali menambah keunggulan menjadi 3-1 melalui gol Michael yang memanfaatkan assist dari Al Hamdan pada menit ke-44.
Skor 3-1 bertahan hingga jeda pertandingan.
Di babak kedua, Inter Miami bangkit dengan cepat dan berhasil menyamakan kedudukan menjadi 3-3.
Lionel Messi berhasil mencetak gol penalti pada menit ke-54, dan segera setelahnya, dia memberikan assist untuk gol David Ruiz.
Pada menit ke-76, Gerardo Martino melakukan pergantian pemain dengan memasukkan Leonardo Campana menggantikan Luis Suarez.
Pada menit ke-88, Lionel Messi digantikan oleh Robert Taylor.
Meski begitu, Al Hilal berhasil memanfaatkan momen tersebut dan mencetak gol melalui Malcom, mantan rekan Messi dan Suarez di Barcelona, pada menit ke-88, menjadikannya gol penentu kemenangan.
Meskipun kalah, Inter Miami menunjukkan perkembangan yang signifikan selama pramusim 2024.
Performa lini depan yang kurang memuaskan pada dua pertandingan awal, kini mulai menunjukkan ancaman serius bagi lawan.

Cristiano Ronaldo juga menyampaikan permintaan maaf kepada suporter di China atas pembatalan pertandingan tersebut.
